Attorney Terence E. Doherty has a unique, hands-on business background that enables him to specialize in providing business owners and managers with high quality, practical legal advice. Mr. Doherty’s practice serves clients in the areas of corporate law and business, estate planning, real estate law, litigation, and intellectual property. Mr. Doherty does not work in the area of taxes.
Mr. Doherty was raised in West Hartford, Connecticut, and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1989 from the University of Connecticut, where he majored in economics and was captain of the UConn Lacrosse Team.
After graduating from UConn, Mr. Doherty worked as a title and trust officer in the corporate headquarters for First American Title & Trust Co. in Santa Ana, California. Mr. Doherty left First American Title & Trust in 1994 to attend Whittier Law School in Los Angeles, California. At Whittier, Mr. Doherty had the rare distinction among all law students nationwide of being a member of both the National Moot Court Honors Board and a published member of his school’s Law Review.
Upon graduating from Whittier Law School in 1997, Mr. Doherty accepted an "in-house" corporate position with Symetrix Corporation – a privately held semiconductor corporation located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Hired as Symetrix’s Associate Legal Counsel, Mr. Doherty was promoted to General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer in March of 1999. Mr. Doherty held these positions with Symetrix until he shifted his practice from “in-house” into a “private” legal practice in April of 2002. In June of 2006, Mr. Doherty formed the Doherty Law Firm, PC. Mr. Doherty’s practice is focused on business and corporate law, real estate law, estate planning, litigation, and intellectual property.
In 2010, Mr. Doherty received the “Volunteer of the Year” award from the Univ. of Colorado - Small Business Development Center at the statewide level among hundreds of other volunteers. In 2015, Mr. Doherty won second place in The Gazette’s “Best of the Springs” contest among all attorneys in Colorado Springs, and has also been voted as a “Top Business Lawyer” from 2015 - 2024.
